Whispering a daily gratitude

is a practice worth repeating

For each new day can bring about

a brand new way of meeting

The challenges, the rocky seas

Arising from the storms

Can shake and break us setting us free

from the confinements of our norms

Move toward practicing gratitude

through the difficult days

And observe how that shift in lens

can change us in so many ways

Practice gratitude, recognizing daily

the potential for love and light,

Letting go of the need for more

and focusing on a new sight

Accepting every ongoing challenge

viewing it as a gift from above

Letting go of anger

gratitude practice brings us into love.

To the earth: Leaf-cycle

I watch you

floating there, hanging in the air

your colors change as you begin to spin

and find you way back to earth

You land not far from the tree

where you were born

just another leaf

on the growing golden tan pile

There at the bottom of the tree

you all collect

no protest, just resting silently

waiting for the next thing

A wind to whisk you away

a child to run by and kick you into the air

a dog to sniff you

or use you for his business

Most likely though, you will return

back to the earth, right near here

right by this tree where you once hung and

fluttered in the breeze

You will break down and feed the earth

the earth that supports the tree

and you will become the tree again

parts of you cycling back up towards greenness

Fluttering in the breeze again

capturing the light

releasing pure oxygen

for all of us to breathe

We will welcome you

so glad to see you again

in a few months time

the cycle of the leaf

Love House

I had a flash one morning

Of all of the love in this house

Of the love in this family

Of the love in this world

I am left in awe of the love

I have received and feel

I question how I have come

To deserve this much love

And I know I must spread the word

It is right there, right at your fingertips

Simply open your heart, in the here and now

And love will enter in

Bring love first to yourself

Then to your very closest and dearest

To you friends and family; then spread it out

To all enemies and challengers

May we all know peace, ease, love, and joy

May all of our hearts be full

May we hold each other in God’s light

May love rule our planet.

It was a grey cool New England Fall day

Threats of rain, wind blowing past

The new would be soon

Positive or negative, nobody knew

I walked in knowing that I would change

From this moment on I would be different

And the unknown was building all around

Palpable, a life of its own

And though the outcome is positive

And magnificent, a dream come true

The emotions are overwhelming

A release of all that has brought us here today

For really, every moment we change

We grow and move forward and on

Bringing those life experiences with us

Moving toward greater understanding

Just an accomplishment

And still a moment in time

A large step forward

An end within a new beginning

Waiting for the storm to come

Yearning for a change of pace

Bring it to me, mother earth

Some change in weather to soothe me

I want cold air blowing by

Chilling me through

Wet and damp and freezing to touch me

And please come on through to my soul

Others they like sun, and light

I want the cool, the settling in

The finding comfort in something warm

The fire crackling nearby

I want cuddles and movie marathons

Reading books on the couch

A deep rest in a cozy bed

A snow blanket to quietly cover the earth

I am waiting for you weather

Come this way tonight, obscure the moon

And fill this desire for cold comfort

For settling in deeply.
