Unbearable Compassion

So much loss, these many children gone

In an instant

An insane slaughter

Of life, love, potential.

Om Mani Padme Hum.

How to maintain love and compassion for all

This is the task before us

This is what will end wars

And usher in peace

For mankind.

Om Mani Padme Hum.

Remember why you are here

Love, serve, remember

To practice unbearable compassion

For all suffering

Even for all bad, evil, corrupt acts

It will be unbearable

Eventually after years of aching…

Om Mani Padme Hum.

After years of practicing compassion

Your heart will flow with love and light

It will be seen in your body

Shining forth love

In your voice

Soothing and grounding

In your movement

Elegant and light

In your beaming smile

Om Mani Padme Hum.

And you will embrace all of it

And soothe all of it

And deeply know all of it

You will become

Unbearable compassion for all.

Om Mani Padme Hum.

Into the light

I stepped into a foreign place

And I faltered a bit

Looking forĀ  a warm embrace.

Slowly he guided me

“Be still listen to the music”

Whatever will be, will be.

Slowly I moved, circling left then right

I gained courage to take the chance

I stepped into the brightest of light.

It was so very brilliant, truly blazing

I met the sacred ones there

The pure love they shared was amazing.

The ancestors, they whispered me to love and let go

All is well, dear one,

You know everything you need to know.

When I emerged from this excursion

I knew that I was ready for change

A new love arising form the immersion.

Now you will see, from within me,

The eternal light that is emerging

This is what will be, and be, and be.

To Know You

I want to look through your eyes

And see the world, just as you do

I want to walk in your shoes

And know what it means to be you.

I want to know the inside of you

Somehow flow through your blood

And know all things good and bad

Hear your heart up close, as it goes thud, thud thud.

I want to hear the world the way you do

And hold it all brand new

Smell the smells and see the sights

Know what is real and what is true.

Alas it’s just a dream I have

To know you as I know myself

But one day, this dream just may come true

Before the end of time, becoming the universal oneself.

I inhale

Again, again, again

Breathing and relaxing

Being with the inhale

When I open my eyes

The world has shifted

And changed in ways

I can’t explain.

Suddenly, I am more at ease

I am more myself

Lighter in body

Stronger in being

Now I am more present

More aware of the endless beauty

It’s all right before me

Beautiful leaves, smiling children, happy music

So I will come back again

And breathe slowly

Inhaling and relishing

This way to change the world.

Yoga Class

It’s just a yoga class

In a sunshine-y room with a heater on

As the clouds stream by outside

We rest quietly inside

While to world streams by outside

Breathing, focusing, drifting

Soon enough, we move our bodies

Poses into poses

Pausing to breathe, stretch, be here now

It’s just a yoga class

A room filled with 8 women

All of use surely over 45 and maybe up into our 60’s

We are in regular yoga clothes

Nothing fancy or extraordinary

Because it is just a yoga class

In a small town in New England

And we don’t think of yoga as exercise

We honor it as a path toward relaxation and healing

We use kapalbhati breath

Pulling our abdomens back to our spines

Passively inhaling

And I wonder if our skulls really are shining

I shake as always during the holding of the poses

12 years of yoga and still I shake

As if I am still shaking off all of life’s little traumas

In the fine tremors of my body

Finally we come back to the mat

One last twist, be a happy baby

And then, the best, the savasana

It’s just a yoga class

Still as important as any other yoga class

Thank you for practicing, for creating peace ease inside of yourself

Just a Clear Little Night

The Dog

He needs to be walked and walked and walked

It doesn’t matter if it is raining or snowing, he needs to walk

And do his business

So I took him out last night

Last night, out into the cool air, bundled up in my purple down jacket

With the fake furry fringe around my face

Which allows me to peak out, as if from a tunnel

I peak out and I see a clear, dark, crisp sky

Stars shining, twinkling with their gaseous light

And a half full moon glowing bright white in the center of the sky

We walk and walk and he does his business

The shadows of the leave-less Spring trees follow us back down the empty dark street

Their spiny branches creating fingers that reach for us, reach for us, reach for us

And it’s so beautiful

So beautiful that I cannot imagine not going out for this walk

I needed to be breathing in the fresh air of this clear little night

With my tunnel vision, and dog in tow

And the leave-less shadow trees reaching, reaching, reaching.
