Two Minutes to Midnight

It’s just two minutes to midnight

This old house it ain’t feeling right

Just two minutes to midnight.

She’s broken down and falling apart

She’s bleeding out, there goes her heart

At just two minutes to midnight.

The clock it’s a ticking, can’t slow it back down

The fastest two minutes that ever were around

Just two, baby, two minutes left.

Her caps are melting, the systems are failing

Some folks wailing, others go on railing

Don’t mater, it’s just two minutes to the end.

In just two minutes, she’ll be set back free

But that will be the end, the end to you and me.

Just two minutes, two minutes to midnight.

The long day

A hot day, high humidity, sticky feeling everywhere.

So much to do,the first day of school for us all!

Make lunches, off to school, answer emails, check classes, make videos, meetings, pick up children, meetings, dinner…

And of course the need to make time for the self

To just breathe and chant alone inside

Listen to the crickets, frogs, birds singing their last few songs of summer….

Stop and listen, breathe, and move the body

If it is not enough, or if is still just too much

Too much to do, too much to be, too much anger, too much of too much

Then let it go, sailing out into the newly dark night

And try again tomorrow, a new start of a new start.

To the earth: Leaf-cycle

I watch you

floating there, hanging in the air

your colors change as you begin to spin

and find you way back to earth

You land not far from the tree

where you were born

just another leaf

on the growing golden tan pile

There at the bottom of the tree

you all collect

no protest, just resting silently

waiting for the next thing

A wind to whisk you away

a child to run by and kick you into the air

a dog to sniff you

or use you for his business

Most likely though, you will return

back to the earth, right near here

right by this tree where you once hung and

fluttered in the breeze

You will break down and feed the earth

the earth that supports the tree

and you will become the tree again

parts of you cycling back up towards greenness

Fluttering in the breeze again

capturing the light

releasing pure oxygen

for all of us to breathe

We will welcome you

so glad to see you again

in a few months time

the cycle of the leaf

The timekeeper

Come in and sat

Take the practice slowly

Not to worry

I will watch it all

I will watch the time

I will watch your pose

I will remember to bring you back

I will listen for the chime

The chime from the mother

Ringing in  my head

I will wait for it

And let you know when

You can just breathe there

Be there in peace

With nothing to worry over

I will watch the time
